To demonstrate the deity of Christ, the quintessential passage is John 5:19, “For whatever the Father does, the Son likewise does these things.” The ‘whatever’ has no limit. Saints, if a JW comes to your door, take him to this passage and don’t let him jump to another.
If the JW tries to wiggle out, go a sentence back in the same verse, even in the JW’s own version of the Bible: “Most truly I say to you, the Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he sees the Father doing.”
What are the implications of this passage? Jesus CAN ONLY DO what the Father does. The JW will try to argue that Jesus cannot be God because he cannot do a single thing of his own initiative. But that is not the point of this passage; quite the contrary. Jesus is saying he is equal to God because he only does what the Father does since he is of the Father. That is why he says he is unable to do anything on his own; he cannot because he is one with the Father by nature, as he elsewhere testifies (John 10:30,38).
